January Speaker | Kelly Griffin

Kelly’s passion for succulents has led him to become a prominent hybridizer and propagator, creating over 100 unique varieties. As a dedicated member of the San Diego Cactus and Succulent Society, he holds leadership roles and has co-authored a book on Dudleyas. He will present his latest adventures in Australia at the Gates meeting on January 10th.

September Speaker | Gunner Eisel

Elias Aparicio, a geologist and member of Gates Cactus and Succulent Society, will be the guest speaker at the club meeting. He will share insights on grafting cactus and succulent plants, highlighting its practical benefits and creative potential. With over 14 years of experience, Elias advocates for grafting as a valuable tool for growers at all levels.

September 2024 President’s Message

After the recent heat wave, preparations for the September meeting continue. The speaker will be Gunnar Eisel discussing Pitzer College’s gardens. The annual potluck barbeque at Judy Horne’s home is set for October 19th. However, the church’s decision means the library needs to be relocated. All borrowed books should be returned at the upcoming meeting.

August 2024 President’s Message

The first meeting on our new monthly cadence was well-attended, showing that the second Friday of the month works for most. Exciting announcements are expected for the annual Cactus Cook-Off and field trip, with new rescue cacti for sale. Board Member Elias Aparicio will talk about grafting at the upcoming meeting.

May Speaker | Adam Baker

Adam, a devoted husband and father, is a software developer with a passion for cacti and succulents, particularly Astrophytum. Over the last 5 years, he has cultivated a collection of 200+ mature Astrophytum plants, even creating hybrids. He looks forward to sharing his love for this genus and his experiences at our upcoming event.

Manny Rivera was born in The Chihuahuan Desert. His passion and love for cacti and succulents started when he came to a plant show for the first time at the CSSA Cactus and Succulent Show held at The Huntington Library in 1995.
