The February meeting had a great attendance of about fifty people braving the cold evening to be with us. It certainly was a joy to see more new members and returning ones as well. Along with more attendees, there were also many entries in the monthly mini plant show. With more plants for consideration, the judges enjoyed and appreciated such varieties which made their selection more challenging. Our club definitely has no shortage of wonderful succulent growers so thank you for sharing them. We always look forward to each month’s plants.
On behalf of the Board and the general membership, I would like to recognize and thank Karen Fleisher and Teresa Wassman for their ten plus years of volunteer service as the club’s librarian and greeter, respectively. You’ve all met them when you sign in at each meeting and/or when you buy raffle tickets or check out the club’s library book collection. February was their last month helping with those two positions. They are and will continue to be active members with the club. To carry on these duties, Kris Leigh is our new club greeter and Barbara Croonquist is the new librarian. Thank you everyone for all your assistance. We can always use more help.
The Board would like to thank Petra Crist last month for showing us how to start your own nursery. Her presentation was a last-minute planning effort to secure a speaker. Our speaker for this month is Woody Minnich. Woody is well known to our club and throughout the cactus/succulent community. He has a new program to share with us on the Gymnocalycium of South America. His talks are well- received and this topic should be interesting and entertaining. Don’t forget about the ongoing CSSA biweekly webinar programs. They are available for free registration through the CSSA website and on our website.
We’ll see everyone at the meeting (can you believe it’s March already?).
