Now that it’s officially fall season, the worst of the summer heat should be behind us. Even though the nighttime temperature is much cooler and more pleasant, the daytime thermometer can still heat up into the 90s and low 100s. So continue to tend to your plants with care and diligence against the hot sun. And while you are doing that, let’s talk about some upcoming club activities.
FIELD TRIP!! The club will host a succulent field trip to the Palm Springs area on Saturday, November 12, 2022. We will visit The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert and tentatively, the Moorten Botanical Garden in Palm Springs. Here’s where it benefits you for being a club member. The club will cover all admission costs to both gardens if you are a fully paid club member as of November 1, 2022. If you are a family member, only one individual in the family will have their admission covered by the club. Should you wish to bring any additional family members and/or guests, then each of these individuals will be responsible for their own admission cost.
In addition, the club has secured a discounted group rate for The Living Desert. This requires the club to purchase the tickets in advance of the date of admission.
To secure your reservation for the field trip, we ask that you make a $20.00 advanced deposit which will be fully refunded to you when you arrive at the garden and pick up your ticket.
Sign up and reservation deposit will be available during the October and November club meetings. But wait…there’s more! The club will also be providing lunch for members, and you are welcome to bring your own lunch as well. We will have further details for you. Note: Transportation is not provided … We will meet at the first site at a prearranged time. Carpooling is always recommended!
ELECTIONS!! Fall season also means it is time for club officer elections. This November, two Director positions will need to be filled. This is a great opportunity for you to volunteer and share your input to help facilitate the function and activity of our club. Open nominations from the general membership are also welcomed. Just give it some thought.
PLANT RAFFLE!! Thank you to everyone who has been participating in the monthly plant raffle with your ticket purchases. These plants and prizes have been donated by club members and/or through cactus plant rescue efforts. If you would like to consider donating plant(s) or other succulent-related items to the raffle, the club always welcomes and accepts your generosity. In addition, any item or monetary donation contribution you make to the club is tax deductible to the extent of the law, as the club is a 503(c)(3) organization.
It’s not too early to discuss preparations for our upcoming December holiday party at our meeting. Let’s not forget about our speaker guest for this month either. Karen Ostler will share her Mammillaria knowledge with us and you can read her bio in this newsletter.
There’s lots to do and see so we’ll catch up with one another at the meeting.
See you next week!
