Well, after twenty-two months we were finally able to get back together with a live, in-person general meeting last month. And that was such an exhilarating feeling for some thirty people who were able to attend the meeting. We certainly miss many of our other club members who couldn’t come. Thank you to Gary Duke for being our first speaker and for presenting the informative talk on characteristics of cacti. Thank you to the members who participated in our mini plant show. Your plants can be viewed on the club’s website.
Our new website is active and is packed full of information about our club and other news and activities in the world of cactus and succulent. Check us out at gatescactusandsucculent.com. Send in pictures of your plants and garden to share with the club. It’s an opportunity for all of us to connect with one another through our succulents. Please also renew your club membership or consider joining the club. You can access, complete, and send in the membership application through the website as well. Thank you to Jo Ann Crabtree for the marvelous work as our web-master.
And finally, I would like to inform everyone that, sadly, the February general meeting has been cancelled. Due to ever-evolving situation of the health pandemic, it has become necessary to halt all live meetings in large numbers. Both the speakers and the Board feel it is in the best interest for everyone’s health and safety to re-consider hosting the monthly meeting at a future time. We will continue to monitor the current pandemic status with regards to the tentatively planned club’s plant sale in May.
Because we will not be meeting in February, the club needs to vote for the recipient of the Hazelle Newman Achievement Award. Jo Ann Crabtree has been nominated for the club’s distinguished award. You may read her nomination comments in last month’s newsletter. Please cast your vote for this award by contacting either myself or John Reynolds by February 7, 2022.
