As you sit there munching away on your Halloween treats, you are reminded that the holiday season has started. You certainly enjoy the much needed cool down and your succulents do as well. I have already mentioned that some of the plants are undergoing an awakening of sorts. The winter plants are becoming livelier with help from the cooler nights. The summer cacti are slowing down their activities, but some may still manage to grow out flower buds. This flower will be smaller and may not bloom as big as they did during the summer heat. These remaining months of the year signals that change is coming.
November is filled with many important activities for our club. Our biggest club civic duty is to elect the club officers and directors. Without them, the club would not be able to function. They are your fellow club members, your representative, and your movers and shakers to make Gates CSS what it has been for over sixty years. That is why everyone needs to attend and choose our continuing leaders. Election ballots will be distributed during the meeting. Open nomination from the floor for any position is available at the meeting. Please participate.
Our final guest speaker for the year will be the world- renowned succulent plant hybridizer, Kelly Griffin. He’s always a favorite for everyone who brings such enthusiasm and excitement to his presentation. You are familiar with some of the plants he has introduced into the trade and hobby. Read more on this in his biography in the newsletter. Kelly will also be bringing some of his amazing plants to sell, so this will be your last opportunity to obtain some awesome plants just in time for the holidays.
We are in the midst of planning for our December holiday party. Many details will be the hot topic for everyone at the meeting, sign-up for the potluck dinner, holiday entertainment, announcement of the mini plant show winners, and annual club gifts for each member. Did I already mention lots of yummy holiday treats? How else do we wrap up another year full of succulent wonders than to celebrate it with our friends.
Don’t miss out on the fun – so don’t miss the meeting.
Sincerely, Phuc
