President’s Message: June, 2023

The return of our full annual show and sale event was a huge success, and in no small part due to all the wonderful volunteers and participants. Your energy and enthusiasm were plenty to go around, and we greatly appreciate the support and camaraderie.

We had a record number of eighteen vendors this year selling super cool cacti and succulents, as well as genuine ceramic potteries. Thank you to all the vendors for participating with us. Our first plant show in four years was also a delightful return. With over two hundred entries, the plant exhibit burst into full succulent regalia.

Thank you to the set up and clean-up crew who did it in record time – Amy/Kirk Tylor, Lindy Carillo, Mike Strieby, John Reynolds, Chris Sedmack, Linda Walsh and her two sons, Sandy Wall, Rebecca Wooster, Robert/Christy Patterson, Mike Madrigal, Lyndsee Cordes and Camie Gelston. Many of these individuals also shared other volunteer duties, such as greeter/information booth and security (Bob Barth and Pam Newlin, Barry Urman). Thank you, Jo Ann Crabtree, and to her excellent cashiering crew – Jeff Loew, Huong Huynh, Barbara Croonquist and Mike Strieby for working so efficiently to make the purchasing check-out process so smooth and fast. Tom Glavich and Tori Wilson, from SGVCSS, came one Friday and served as consultant specialists to the new cashier machines.

Thank you, Kim Urman and Judy Horne for your dedication to leading the plant show exhibit. Fantastic! As were the Judges – Manny Rivera, Petra Crist, Gunnar Eisel, Karen Ostler, the Clerks – Karen Fleisher, Teresa Wassman, Patrick Reninger, Nicole Ocegura, Nanette Patrini with Jeff Loew computing the points.

Thank you, Ann/John Reynolds for feeding us and Chris/Karen Roholt for keeping us well hydrated.

Your feedback and input regarding the show and sale are always welcome, so that we can make our future events an even bigger success.

Lastly, congratulations to all the plant show trophy, award, and ribbon winners. You have demonstrated your love and passion for growing and showcasing succulent plants. Both the club members and the public audience attending the show witnessed some truly amazing plants. They were astounded.

This month’s guest speaker will be Thomas Glavich who will give a new talk on ice plants. Let’s hear what he has to say so see you at the meeting.

Sincerely, Phuc
